What to give the person who has everything? The answer, of course, is “more everything.” Last year, the world’s top-earning celebrities brought in a gross total of $6.3 billion dollars, 21 percent more than the previous year. The list includes entertainers from across the world, but all top five on the list are from nowhere other than the United States. Here are the highest earning celebrities of 2018, according to Forbes.
5. Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson
From pro football to pro wrestling to Hollywood, Dwayne Johnson has been through the gauntlet of the public eye. The past decade has been particularly noteworthy as he has seen skyrocketing success beginning in the early half of the 2010s. Recent times have marked the celebrity as a beloved public figure. However, 2018 marks a new high for the Rock — $124M. Johnson saw an almost 100 percent increase in pay from his acting career.
4. Judy Sheindlin
Judge Judy Sheindlin started her career as a corporate lawyer for a cosmetics firm before taking a hiatus for motherhood and returning to the justice system as a prosecutor and ultimately a family court judge. She’s been in the spotlight since her 1993 60 Minutes special and her first published work, Don’t Pee on My Leg and Tell Me It’s Raining. Rest assured, no one has challenged the first part of her order, but with her popular TV show going into its 23rd season, it’s raining dollars signs on Judge Judy. Clocking in at $147 million, Sheindlin ranks at number four of the top-earning U.S. celebrities.
3. Kylie Jenner
Kylie Jenner took a defiant stance against the notion that “youth is wasted on the young.” At 21 years of age, Jenner made her newcomer entrance as the youngest person to ever be featured on the Forbes list. Kylie has made a fortune from her TV appearances, cosmetic line and top-10 ranking as an Instagram influencer. With her fame, Jenner has also faced a number of major challenges including legal battles and public controversies, but 2018 was especially lucrative for the young star as she brought in $166.5 million.
2. George Clooney
George Clooney does not age like fine wine. Fine wine ages like George Clooney. The American heartthrob and activist saw tremendous success in business when British liquor company Diageo purchased his co-founded tequila company Casamigos. Diaegeo purchased the company for $1 billion and assured the public that Clooney would still be very much a part of the brand. The celebratory drinks never tasted better as, with an annual income of $239 million, Clooney just closed the most lucrative year of his acting career, or that of any other American actor, landing him the number two spot on the list.
1. Floyd Mayweather
Hate it or love, Floyd’s on top. His prize fight against Conor McGregor in 2017 saw over 4.3 million people shell out the cash for the pay-per-view in the U.S. alone. Combined with ticket sales, sponsorships and other avenues, the event generated more than $550 million in revenue and landed the victor, boxing champion and multimillionaire a cool $275 million. Mayweather made his reputation in the boxing world as a calculated, technical champion, and his skill goes undisputed as he secured his second annual placing at the gold spot on Forbes’s Celebrity 100 list.
